Justin Bieber made a stop at the Anne Frank House on Friday, April 12, during his European tour and left a message in their guest book that has caused an outpouring of unhappiness on the Internet.
The museum, located in Amsterdam, posted to their Facebook page a transcription of Bieber’s message: ”Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.” It has generated hundreds of replies, most of them negative and addressing Bieber’s perceived sense of self-importance in the face of a giant figure in history.
The Anne Frank House elaborated on Bieber’s visit, saying he “visited the Anne Frank House, together with his friends and guards” and that the pop singer “stayed more than an hour in the museum.”
Frank died in a Nazi concentration camp in 1945. Her famous diary survived and has been read as course curriculum by school children since the Second World War.
