A song written by the couple, it tells the story of Shelton’s brother who passed away when he was a kid.
As Blake explained to Radio.com about the process of writing “Over You,” “It was really a way of healing, and honoring my brother’s memory. And the fact that people were into the song…that’s a thrill for me.”
Once on stage, Lambert took the mic to thank everyone as Pistol Annies’ bandmate Angaleena Presley was seen tearing up in the audience.
“Oh this is awesome you guys. Thank you so much!” she said as she took the award from her husband.
“Last time this happened you didn’t get a chance to talk and you’re not going to get chance this time either,” he joked. “I’ve learned so much from this human being standing next to me. She blows me away . . . I used to think I was a decent songwriter until I was hanging around with her and this is proof of it. Thank you so much baby, I love you.”
Lambert got her time at the mic right after though when she accepted the award for Single Record of the Year once again for “Over You.”
“I didn’t know what to say about Song of the Year because my husband was about to make me bawl and I was trying to keep it together,” Lambert confessed. “Having your song lyrics recognized by your peers is as good as it gets. Thank you for accepting me as a songwriter and not just a singer and performer because that means the world to me.”
