In “What I Like,” the English “dark pop” singer-songwriter has once again laced a music video with copious amounts of sex appeal and bad-girl attitude. XCX and two girlfriends throw a hotel slumber party complete with pizza, a bubble bath, and plenty of seductive dancing. Watch below.
“I know when I’ve written a good song when I can imagine the video,” XCX told Complex. “If I can’t imagine the video straight away, I’m not gonna put it on my album.”
“I don’t care if my record doesn’t sell or anything like that,” she continued. “I just care that it’s a good album.”
Charli XCX’s previous video for “You (Ha Ha Ha)” warranted an apology from the singer, as the so-called gun-glorifying clip was released just weeks after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. In a statement, Charli XCX explained that the idea was to “make lipstick, not war.” The singer said she was sorry if anyone had mistaken the video for advocating violence. She continued, “I’m swapping bullets for lipstick + firing out shots of love with my kick ass girl gang from outerspace!”
Charli XCX’s first full-length album, True Romance, hits stores April 16 on IAMSOUND. She’s gained traction as the featured artist and co-songwriter on Icona Pop’s slow-building hit, “I Love It.”
