Despite the song’s title, you won’t see any lockers or cafeterias in the Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up clip. The pair are actually mafia accomplices wrapped up in a love story of diamonds, mansions and slick getaways. Check out the Benny Boom-directed video below, and the explicit version here.
Minaj shows off her body in sexy swimsuits and lingerie sets, seducing Wayne’s character from the hot tub to the bedroom. Her typical neon Hello Kitty get-ups are nowhere to be seen.
Don’t get the situation twisted, though – the hip-hop colleagues are nowhere close to taking their real-life relationship to the next level. Minaj told MTV that their brother-sister relationship kept things light (albeit a little awkward) between takes on the sexy bedroom set.
“Not only is he my boss, but he’s also like my brother,” Minaj told MTV. “It’s very weird because I’m just used to Wayne making fun of me, and all of Young Money boys making fun of me, so every time they yelled ‘Cut!’ I was just being picked on. It was completely them being bullies to me.”
She added that filming with her Young Money pal was strictly professional, despite their convincingly steamy on-screen connection.
“He refused to touch me, he’s so respectful, he refused to touch me, and then I was like, ‘Wayne,’ I was like, ‘You could do this,’” Minaj continued. “But he was acting scared, like, ‘Yo, Nick, this is my dream. I’m gonna be a man after this video.’ He was just being crazy. But if I didn’t tell him ‘Yes, you can do this’ or ‘touch this,’ he refused to do it, like he’s a southern gentlemen, which people don’t realize.”
In the cinematic clip, Minaj slinks around the mansion’s staircases making eyes at Tunechi while he tries to strike up a deal with mafia members Birdman and actor Emilio Rivera. The fictional lovers win out in the end, robbing the mob boss’s safe and escaping in a helicopter.
That’s certainly a lot of action for Wayne, who recently revealed that he suffers from epilepsy. A health scare last month led to hospitalization and accusations of drug abuse, so the rapper finally revealed his condition and added that stress and too little rest can trigger the seizures.
Despite his health controversy, Wayne’s latest album, I Am Not A Human Being II, debuted last week at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart with 217,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Minaj is keeping busy, too, with a new album expected this year. She told MTV in February that the full-lenth’s sound will follow in the footsteps of Re-Up tracks like “High School.” For now, she’s holding her own as a judge on American Idol, which continues filming through the spring.
