Style Files: Rihanna Partners With MAC For Diamonds Tour

Rihanna’s Diamonds World Tour would be incomplete without a little “Woo” every night – no, not her latest single, but her signature lipstick shade created by MAC Cosmetics.

The makeup giant has created the singer’s beauty look for the world tour, which kicked off last week. MAC senior makeup artist Christopher Del Castillo complemented a bold RiRi Woo red lip with a smoky eye, long lashes and a strong contour to show off the Barbadian beauty’s cheekbones.

“It’s no secret that Rihanna loves a red lip,” Castillo told Vogue UK. “She created RiRi Woo so it was only appropriate to incorporate it into the tour look.”

The lipstick is part of the RiRi [Hearts] MAC collaboration, which will see four capsule collections hit shelves through the end of the year. Vogue UK reports that RiRi Woo was inspired by the songstress’s favorite MAC red, Ruby Woo, and was combined with MAC’s Lip Pencil in Vino and Lipglass in Rebel for the Diamonds look. Castillo kept eyes neutral with MAC Copperplate and Print eyeshadows topped off with two sets of false lashes.

“The eye make-up is beautiful but not high maintenance – we decided to use lashes as the focus rather than a heavy liner,” added Castillo. “We didn’t want anything that would get smudged during costume changes.”

Rihanna undergoes multiple costume changes a night, including couture Givenchy pieces featured in the first act of the show. Also acting as smudge-insurance are MAC’s Prep + Prime natural radiance and Studio Fix Fluid to serve as a base under the rest of the look. To accompany the elaborate silk, satin and leather Givenchy ensembles, Castillo explains that RiRi’s on-stage beauty routine focuses on exaggerating her features without going over-the-top.

“For this look, it’s really about bringing a long-wearing, glamorous, stage-perfect vision of what you would already notice about Rihanna’s beauty look – if you were up-close,” Castillo told Vogue UK. “Rihanna still needs to look like herself and the fans in the way back of the venue need to see her stunning features. To do this, it’s all about exaggerated highlighting and contouring her features. I really just think of this look as an amped-up version of her everyday look.”

The brand has previously created lipsticks with pop stars like Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, but sees the collaboration with Rihanna as a long-term partnership, according to Women’s Wear Daily. RiRi Woo will be the first product in the new line to hit shelves, with MAC debuting the lipstick at a pop up shop at her May 4 and 5 tour dates at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.
