Miguel Wants To Make An Album With Jack White: ‘He’s The Consummate Artist’

“I’m a huge fan."

Cross-genre musical collaborations are so hot right now. Emerging hip-hop star A$AP Rocky recruited EDM golden boy Skrillex and his proteges Birdy Nam Nam to produce “Wild for the Night” on Rocky’s debut full-length, Long.Live.ASAP. Pop star Miley Cyrus raised eyebrows by corralling Odd Future bad boy Tyler, the Creator for her next release, which will also feature hip-hop hero Pharrell Williams. Even The Roots and Elvis Costello are working together.

And if a certain ascending R&B singer has his way, he’ll soon join those ranks by working with rock’s reigning renaissance man.

In an exclusive interview with Radio.com, Miguel revealed that collaborating with Jack White is at the top of his musical wish list, particularly for a full-length collaborative album.

“His range is like incredible, and it would be extremely unexpected. Because when people say ‘best of both worlds,’ they always think hip-hop and R&B,” Miguel said, referencing Jay-Z and R. Kelly’s collaborative album, The Best of Both Worlds.

“I just think that Jack White is the consummate artist – an artist’s artist,” Miguel added. “I’m a huge fan. I think it would make for a great juxtaposition musically and creatively.”

Such a genre-defying collaboration would be nothing new for White, who’s worked with an impressively disparate cast of musical collaborators including Miguel’s current tourmate Alicia Keys, as well as Black Milk and infamous Detroit rappers ICP.

Miguel is still riding high on his GRAMMY win for Best R&B Song for monster hit “Adorn” (from his album Kaleidoscope Dream) – and being shouted-out onstage by Kelly Clarkson as someone she’d like to sing with. He will make his Saturday Night Live debut April 13th.
