One Direction won an award last night that most artists would be embarrassed to earn, but the boys took it all in stride.
The group were awarded twice at the NME Awards 2013 for Worst Band and Villain of the Year. Nominated alongside Muse, Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, the boy band won Worst Band for the second year in a row.
Harry Styles also took home the win for Villain of the Year, trumping Skrillex, Azealia Banks, PSY, Fred Macpherson and UK Prime Minister David Cameron. Though we’re not sure how the outcome is tallied, his recent break-up with country-pop sweetheart Taylor Swift might have had something to do with it.
While the boys weren’t there in person to accept their awards as they’re currently headlining their Take Me Home European Tour, Harry Styles took to Twitter for his acceptance speech.
And thank you to @nme for my award tonight. Gotta take the rough with the smooth eh?

One Direction are getting the last laugh though as their fans have helped them take the world by storm and make them a global phenomenon. Their new video for “One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks),” made to raise money for Comic Relief, begs the question: are One Direction really the Worst Band in the world?
